“All that for that”, one would be tempted to say… We are not talking here about Thibault Pinot's Tour de France or Game of Thrones season 8, but about Prime Minister Jean Castex's speech this Friday after the defense council dedicated to the coronavirus epidemic.

Allocation devoid of major announcements or strong decisions, which looked more, in substance, like a regular noise on our fingers of refractory Gauls.

However, we can take a breather, we are not re-defined.

To make the French as responsible as possible, the Prime Minister enumerated a list of worrying figures: France today has 72 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants against "only" 57 a week ago, there is an increase in people in resuscitation, and 42 departments are classified "red".

However, in the face of this armada of bad news, Jean Castex also defended the conservation of our social life, work and our joys outside.

Collective and individual responsibility

The cohabitation between the world "before" and the virus - with which "we will have to learn to live", as he insisted - will be made possible only thanks to the strict application of barrier gestures and health measures, repeated the Prime Minister: masks, hand washing, physical distancing, self-isolation in case of doubt or symptoms, and tests.

France now achieves a million a week, placing it on the podium of European countries testing the most, according to the chef de Matignon.

The Prime Minister calls above all "for the individual responsibility of each", and particularly of the elderly, the most at risk, invited "to the greatest caution" for "a few more months".

Numerous tests, but rendered ineffective by the sometimes astronomical waiting time for their verdict.

Faced with this shortcoming, "of which he is well aware", Jean Castex announced new measures for priority cases: number of tests reserved, specific hours in laboratories, and installation of new screening tents.

In addition, 2,000 additional people will be recruited for tracing contact cases, and the duration of isolation is reduced to seven days.

Finally, the Prime Minister announced the importance of territorial responses adapted to local situations, and not "of decisions emanating only from Paris".

In this idea, the prefects of Bordeaux, Marseille, Guadeloupe, "each having a worrying evolution of contaminations", will each have to present by Monday a set of additional measures to counter the spread of the virus.

Measures which, at the local or national level, will always be "adapted and graduated measures", assures Jean Castex.
