Zhong Nanshan said that for 60 years of teaching in medicine, his experience is that doctors are both soul engineers and human health engineers.

As a teacher, Zhong Nanshan has strict requirements for students.

"Mr. Zhong has repeatedly emphasized that the patient should not be seen only once, and that there must be a long-term follow-up. If we do not follow up, he will definitely follow up. If there is a doctor who asks three questions during the rounds, there is definitely no way to pass." Guan Weijie, associate researcher and doctoral supervisor of Guangzhou Medical University said.
Weijie Guan was a doctoral student of Zhong Nanshan, and is now a principal investigator at the State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases.
Due to an important breakthrough in bronchiectasis research, in late September this year, Guan Weijie will participate in the 4th World Conference on Bronchiectasis and Nontuberculous Mycobacteria as the sole representative of China.

Guan Weijie told reporters that it was Zhong Nanshan who suggested that he use bronchiectasis as the main direction of attack, and pointed out that although bronchiectasis research is difficult to produce results in a short time, "but now patients urgently need us to use scientific research to help solve problems, we must sit on the bench and be brave to explore. ".
In Guan Weijie's view, one of the most distinctive characteristics of Zhong Nanshan's research is that it is based on clinical discovery of problems and then solves the problems through research.
"Mr. Zhong will not just find a topic to do for the sake of publishing an article. Generally, he will encounter a difficult problem. If the solution can change the current diagnosis and treatment strategy, he will do it. This also makes the research topic of our team, It must focus on major issues affecting the national economy and people’s livelihood."
Zhong Nanshan, who is strict with students, is also strict with the law.
Although he is now more than 80 years old, he will go out in person every time a topic is completed, and before replying, he specifically asks his assistant to listen to him fully, point out the problems, and practice repeatedly until he is proficient.
If he encounters a problem he doesn't know well, he will humbly ask the juniors for advice.

Guan Weijie said: "Even if our papers are different from those of foreign authoritative magazines, if we confirm that our conclusions are correct, Mr. Zhong will stick to it, and will fight with the other party, and will not say that the other party is an authority without questioning it."
It is worth mentioning that most of the members of Zhong Nanshan's team are doctors during the day and researchers at night.
The combination of scientific research and clinical practice is what Zhong Nanshan has always admired, and he hopes to cultivate compound talents in clinical scientific research.
Driven by Zhong Nanshan, Guangzhou Medical University established Nanshan Class and Nanshan College in 2010 and 2013 respectively.
No matter how busy he is at work, he insists on teaching Nanshan class himself.
Li Jianhua, director of the Academic Affairs Office of Guangzhou Medical University, told reporters that in accordance with Zhong Nanshan's educational philosophy, the Nanshan Class is committed to cultivating excellent clinicians, excellent clinical researchers and excellent clinical management personnel.

Driven by Zhong Nanshan, Guangzhou Medical University will use Nanshan Class and Nanshan College as pilot projects to integrate basic and clinical courses, and the curriculum system is all disease-based.
Li Jianhua pointed out that Nanshan class students started taking organ system courses in the third semester and went to the hospital for internship.
Currently, Nanshan Class has 167 graduates, most of whom are now engaged in clinical research.
