As in other large cities in France, you should not forget your mask to go out in the streets of Angers from this weekend.

This Thursday, the prefecture of Maine-et-Loire announced that the wearing of a mask for people over 11 years old in the public space of "the entire municipal territory" will be compulsory from Saturday, and until to October 11.

Only car, motorbike or scooter drivers are exempt.

The measure will also be applied in Cholet, Saumur and Trélazé and in the associated municipality of Beaupréau.

"Current health data reveal a significant increase in the active circulation of the virus in the department and particularly in the busiest areas, especially city centers", justifies the prefecture.

Soon in "red zone"

The prefecture adds that the department could soon pass into a "red zone" in view of the increase in indicators.

The alert threshold of 50 cases per 100,000 was exceeded last Saturday and the test positivity rate in the cities concerned “exceeds the departmental average of 4.2%.

"

The Pays-de-la-Loire Regional Health Agency is to hold a press point this Thursday evening.

New measures could be announced for Loire-Atlantique and for Nantes, where wearing a mask is only required in certain sectors for the moment.
