Face masks or masks have become part of the "new normal," but for many children adapting to face masks represents a great challenge, especially with returning to school.

Some made masks a part of children's games, by putting them on their favorite dolls, and others encouraged children through superheroes who wear masks, and set specific times for wearing masks at home, so that children feel comfortable when wearing them outside.

"Children of all ages had questions about the reason for wearing masks, and convincing answers had to be provided to encourage them to adapt to this new habit," said the psychologist and mother of five, Emma Warrell.

"I compared the mask to the sunscreen, as sunscreen protects our skin from the sun, and masks provide protection for the wearer and others from harmful viruses," added Emma.

She emphasized that the role of parents, as a model to be emulated, is the most important factor that helps children adopt the idea of wearing face masks. “The child does not stop observing the behavior and movements of his family, so if you are keen on wearing the mask, they are likely to follow the same behavior.”

For his part, Othman Khaled, founder and CEO of Veromasex, believes that "when wearing uncomfortable masks, children can touch the face continuously to make adjustments, which increases the risk of infection."

The company Ferromasex has announced the launch of two superhero characters, to encourage children to use the mask.

Kara, a young girl with flowing brown hair and piercing silver eyes, becomes a Germinator as soon as she puts on the mask;

As for Victor, he becomes a defender with extraordinary power when wearing his mask.

These characters aim to motivate young people to wear masks, by linking the mask with supernatural characters, who become more powerful when wearing masks.

The educational psychologist, Dr. Diksha Longani, said: “You should talk to the child in proportion to his age level, and ask the child about his information and ideas about protective masks before obliging him to wear the mask.”

"Young children love to work as assistants," Diksha adds. "Explain to your child that wearing a mask will proudly make him a community helper, a masked superhero, or that wearing a mask is an important job he has been assigned to."

She also stressed the importance of discouraging children from playing with the masks they wear, and added that "role-playing is a safe method that will help increase familiarity and positive association with wearing masks. Therefore, children can participate in designing miniature masks for their favorite doll characters."

"As with any other life skill, such as housework or personal hygiene, teach your child to wear masks and practice," Diksha said. "It could also be an opportunity to showcase your child's favorite superhero costume to wear the mask."

Emma Warrell:
