Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Disposal of water containing tritium and other opinions by neighboring prefectures September 9 19:10

The sixth meeting was held on the 9th to hear opinions from groups related to the country on the disposal method of water containing tritium, etc., which is increasing at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. Representatives from the three neighboring prefectures gave their opinions.

Regarding the disposal of water containing radioactive materials such as tritium that continues to accumulate in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, in February this year, the method of the national subcommittee diluting it below the standard and releasing it into the sea or the atmosphere is the reality. According to the report, the government will decide the policy after hearing the opinions from the local community and related organizations.

On the 9th, the sixth hearing was held in Tokyo, and representatives of the three prefectures around Fukushima Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture, and Chiba Prefecture, made their respective opinions.

Of these, Vice Governor Shinya Endo of Miyagi Prefecture stated that “there are distrusts and anxieties due to the history of the disposition,” and an accurate explanation that consumers and distributors can feel secure. We sought effective information transmission and effective rumors.

In addition, Governor Kazuhiko Oikawa of Ibaraki Prefecture said, "I can't seem to conclude that the contents of the sea or the atmosphere are realistic. There is no way that it will have less impact. I would like to ask," and asked for further discussion.

In addition, Vice Governor Shinsuke Takikawa of Chiba Prefecture said, "The reputation has not been wiped out due to the restrictions on foreign imports of marine products remaining in foreign countries. I have a strong anxiety," and asked the country to come to the site to hear the voices of the locals and to show concrete and effective measures in advance.

Regarding the disposal of water containing tritium, etc. that remains after treating contaminated water, various opinions have been expressed, including support and disagreement with the plan to release it into the environment such as the sea.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will continue to coordinate the holding of meetings to hear opinions, and will create a place to organize opinions so far.
