Non-potato crackers are sometimes classified as healthier than French fries, and their packaging bears phrases such as: "Less fat than potato crackers" or "More protein."

However, a German consumer center examined 80 different vegetable crackers on the market and found that they did not fulfill those claims.

In other words: potato crackers, in general, contain about 530 calories, and 33 grams of fat per 100 grams, while crackers made of beets and potatoes, or parsnips, contain 500 calories and 32 grams for the same amount.

But crackers made with lentils, peas, and other grains have fewer calories, up to 440 calories and 16 grams of fat per 100 grams.

It also contains more protein than other options, and this feature fades immediately, due to the high amount of salt in it.

In fact, vegetable crackers contain no less salt, compared to potato crackers.

It is noteworthy that consumers who are looking to eat healthy food should not only trust what is written on the package, but they must read the food description label, when they decide which product to buy.
