  • “Les 2 Alfred” by Bruno Podalydès is part of the Cannes selection for 2020 screened out of competition at the Deauville Festival.

  • The director received a triumphant reception for this fantasy about the world of work and its absurdity.

  • After the screening, Bruno Podalydès resumed his juror activities in a more serene manner.

If there is anyone who can be happy with their Deauville Festival, it's Bruno Podalydès!

He is part of the jury chaired by Vanessa Paradis and he received a standing ovation for his hilarious comedy

Les 2 Alfred

in which he directs himself, between his brother Denis and Sandrine Kiberlain.

Les 2 Alfred

(film which was part of the Cannes selection) analyzes the current world of work as would Ken Loach if he had taken a dose of laughing gas.

While waiting for the release of this delicious fantasy on January 13, the actor-director tastes the American films of the competition.

“Being masked in the theater doesn't bother me,” says Bruno Podalydès, “because we are in the dark anyway when we go to the cinema.

Finding the communion of people who vibrate together in front of the screen is a joy.

You don't see all the details if you're not at the movies.

American cinema fan

This is not the first time that Bruno Podalydès has been sworn in Deauville.

He had already held this position in 2009. “What is good is that you immediately feel at ease when you are part of a jury.

Because, even if we didn't know each other before, we talk about cinema.

It's a great way to break the ice and experience the nature of people.

He knows American cinema well: these are the first films he discovered as a family.

“My brother Denis and I improvised cowboys or Indians on the beach when we were children.

It’s kind of what made us want to become actors, ”he recalls.

Relieved, delivered

Bruno Podalydès can fully enjoy his festival now that the screening of

2 Alfred

has passed.

“I dissociate my role of filmmaker from that of juror, he specifies but I was still nervous.

Seeing my movie in the theater made me feel like a hot shower!

It must be said that the public was very receptive by writhing in front of the pranks of two brothers grappling with crazy technology.

Something to console the actor-director for the cancellation of the Cannes Film Festival.

“Deauville is blowing a breeze from the Croisette and Thierry Frémaux has promised that he will invite us back in 2021. So I tell myself that Cannes will last even longer.

This philosophy is, like Bruno Podalydès' cinema, invigorating optimism.
