More than half of the residents have already been diagnosed positive.

Since Sunday, the fifty or so elderly people living in the Etoile du jour nursing home, in the 5th arrondissement of Lyon, have been confined to their rooms due to an outbreak of coronavirus cases observed in the establishment, indicates this Monday the town hall.

On Sunday, 30 residents tested positive for Covid-19.

"The results of 10 other tests are still awaited, 15 came back negative", details the municipality.

“The symptoms of those affected by the epidemic are currently rather mild and comparable to the flu.

A certain number of residents are asymptomatic, ”add the services of environmental mayor Grégory Doucet.

Staff screened

Given the evolution of the disease, which has been on the rise in recent weeks in Lyon, the town hall, the regional health agency and the HCL “remain extremely attentive to patients and to the risks of aggravation”.

In accordance with the health protocols in force, it was decided to keep the residents of the nursing home safe in their rooms, whose relatives were informed of the situation on Sunday and Monday.

Caregivers are also screened.

During this confinement, special attention should be paid to the residents' links with the outside world.

"We want rigorous safety rules while maintaining links with families or accompanying persons because the risk associated with" slip syndrome "can have dramatic consequences for our elders", assures this Monday in a press release Alexandre Chevalier , Lyon assistant for Intergenerational Link and Quality of Life for Seniors.
