A Var climber died on Sunday in Saint-Martin-Vésubie (Alpes-Maritimes) while he was on an outing in the Madone de Fenestre sector, with another person, Nice-Matin reported on Monday.

Sunday morning, the man in his thirties was killed in a fall in the mountains, on the Saint Robert ridge, specifies the regional daily.

The accident is said to have occurred around 8:30 a.m. when the small group was on unstable ground.

Trained and competent mountaineers

The high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM) intervened by helicopter, accompanied by a doctor.

Despite their efforts, the emergency services were unable to save the 30-something.

The two hikers were a priori trained and competent.

This is the second fatal fall in the Alps in three weeks.

On August 22, a young mountaineer, a soldier by profession, fell in the Ecrins massif (Hautes-Alpes) during a family outing.
