The manuscript of his
Plea to be buried on the beach at Sète
will soon be for sale.
Twenty-two original autograph documents by Georges Brassens will be auctioned on September 22 by Artcurial.
They will be on display from September 17 to 21 in the auction house at the Champs Elysées roundabout in Paris.
These pieces come from the succession of his friend Fred Mella, the soloist of the Compagnons de la Chanson who died in 2019. They shed light on the artist's long creative and perfectionist process - sometimes up to four years were required to complete the final version of a song.
Estimates between 600 and 18,000 euros
This set also reveals the poetic influences of Georges Brassens and recalls the major stages of his life, his family ties to Sète, his relationship to religion.
On these scarcely crossed out pages, collectors will be able to find the texts written by the artist's hand, such as
Le Vieux Léon
,
Le Grand Chêne
or
Le 22 Septembre
.
The estimates of the manuscripts range from 600 to 18,000 euros.
