Learn why sad events are forgotten

Scientists in the Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Medical Genetics at Kazan Medical University explained that negative and positive memories remain with a person throughout his life, but it seems that only happy moments remain in the memory, because access to negative memories is restricted by the mechanisms of protecting the brain.

The scientists added the reason why it is known that the human brain retains positive memories is that its negative counterpart is suppressed by the body's defense systems.

Assistant Professor Rustam Gyivotdinov in the Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Medical Genetics at Kazan Medical University said that if negative past memories were constantly available to anyone, this would pose a threat to his life.

According to the doctor, the evidence that negative memories are not erased, rather what happens is just to hide them, is the work of forensic doctors: “The person keeps everything. There are special methods used in forensic medicine, where a person can remember everything. A person can remember "All the details and the visual and auditory sensations, in addition to all the physical sensations. All this is accurately recorded in his brain."
