  Ocean Park said in July this year that the 14-year-old female giant panda Yingying began to show typical signs of pregnancy, including decreased appetite and increased rest time. The park will continue to observe Yingying's situation closely.

On May 31, the reporter visited the giant panda in Hong Kong Ocean Park. According to the garden, the giant panda Lele and Yingying have mated and are now in the observation stage.

Lele is 11 years old, male, kind and playful. He has come to Hong Kong since April 2007.

  According to a press release issued by Ocean Park on September 4th, although Yingying has experienced pregnancy symptoms such as decreased appetite, increased rest time, and changes in hormone levels since mid-July, these symptoms began to gradually decline at the end of August, and hormone levels have also been reduced. After ultrasound scan and expert evaluation, it was determined that she was not pregnant.

  Bu Wenjie, Executive Director of Animals and Conservation of Ocean Park, said that the giant pandas Yingying and Lele in the park started to try natural mating nine years ago and succeeded for the first time in April this year.

  "We hope that Yingying and Lele can mate naturally again in the next breeding season." Bu Wenjie said that the park will continue to uphold the highest standards of animal care to maintain the physical and mental health of the giant pandas.

  It is reported that the central government presented two pairs of giant pandas to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 1999 and 2007, namely Jiajia and An'an, and Yingying and Lele, both of which were arranged to live in Ocean Park.

Yingying and Lele entered their first mating season in 2011, during which time Yingying had false pregnancies and pregnancy terminations.

  Ocean Park said that the pregnancy process of giant pandas is full of variables. Adult female giant pandas have the opportunity to show typical pregnancy symptoms every year after the estrus period.

However, false pregnancy, maternal absorption and miscarriage are not uncommon in giant pandas.
