In 2010, due to a disability in his right leg, he was only in the first grade of elementary school at the age of 16 and had to crawl to school.

The support teacher raised funds to help him treat him. Not only did he stand up, he also found his direction in life.

Yesterday, Xiongdong, who had already returned to the university campus, told reporters that the students in his hometown like to listen to him telling stories about his experiences and the stories outside Dashan.

Accidental burns at 2 years old

Boy with disabled right leg "crawling" herding sheep

Xiongdong, a Miao boy, was born in Lanfangzi Village, Baidiao Miao Township, Muli Tibetan Autonomous County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan.

As far as I can remember, Xiongdong has discovered that he is different from other friends: other friends can stand on two legs and jump and walk, but his right leg is curled up and he can only rely on his right hand to support the ground when walking. Move a little bit before.

From the tearful narratives of his parents, Little Bear Cave learned of his terrible experience in childhood: When his parents went out to herd sheep to do farm work, only the 2-year-old Bear Cave was left at home alone.

One day, he kicked down the oil lamp and lit the quilt... When his parents returned home, Xiongdong's right leg had been burned into a ball of meat.

The Rotten House Village, where the Xiongdong family is located, is surrounded by mountains and traffic is inconvenient. Xiongdong’s parents can only "cure" Xiaoxiongdong with an earthen method.

Without effective treatment, when Xiongdong was seven or eight years old, his thighs and calves were glued together, and he could only walk by crawling.

Misfortunes never come singly. In the winter of 10 years old, Xiongdong's father was killed when a mountain collapsed.

The burden of the family fell on the mother alone. The older brother went out to work, the older sister got married early, and the younger brother was still studying at a young age. In order to reduce the burden on the mother, Xiongdong took the initiative to help her mother herding sheep. It took more than three hours to climb the hole, his palm was bleeding, and he still clenched his teeth.

  16-year-old climbing school

The support teacher helped him go to Guangdong for treatment

Xiongdong worked hard until he was 16 years old, ushering in a turning point in his life.

That year, a group of support teachers came to the village, and all children could go to school.

His mother couldn't help Xiongdong's repeated requests, agreeing to him to go to school.

Xiongdong tied his schoolbag to his body and climbed into the classroom of the village elementary school (Rotten House Village Elementary School).

On the first day of school, Xiongdong met the first "noble man" in his life-Yuan Liming, a support teacher from Laiwu, Shandong.

When the class was called, among a group of young children, the bear cave that had grown into a boy was particularly eye-catching.

After school on the first day, Teacher Yuan and seven or eight other support teachers took Xiongdong to the office to check his condition.

Several support teachers discussed together to treat Xiongdong's leg disabilities and help Xiongdong stand up.

The two teachers, Yuan Liming and Huang Xuan, took Xiongdong to and fro on the path of seeking a doctor.

Meanwhile, Guangdong volunteers organized Foshan Friends Camp to help raise more than 40,000 yuan in treatment fees.

Because Xiongdong’s leg has been injured for a long time, blood vessels and nerves have been constricted and severely deformed. The treatment plan has very high technical requirements. Many hospitals have concerns.

Finally, the Shunde Peace Surgery Hospital, a leading microsurgical technology in the country, accepted Xiongdong and formulated a detailed treatment plan for him.

Before and after bear cave surgery

  12 hours surgery

Straighten the right leg 1 mm every day after the operation

The expert team performed 12-hour surgery on Xiongdong.

"The difficulty of the operation is something I have never encountered in more than 20 years." Zhang Jingliang, then the business dean of the Peace Surgery Hospital, served as the doctor in charge of the bear cave operation.

During the operation, Xiongdong’s knee joint was restored to 90 degrees (normal extension is 180 degrees).

Back to the ward after the operation, the doctors began to implement a gradual extension of the external fixation stent to the bear cave, extending 1mm every day (extension too much too fast will cause neurovascular damage, and even paralysis of the limbs).

A month and a half later, Xiongdong's right leg was fully straightened.

Zhang Jingliang noticed that Xiongdong's physical rehabilitation also brought great changes in spirit. He gradually became more cheerful, unlike when he first arrived.

Three months after the operation, after rehabilitation training and traction, Xiongdong's legs straightened and became stronger, and finally stood up again as he wished.

In early March 2010, Xiongdong was discharged from the hospital and returned to his hometown.

With the help of a walking stick, he climbed a mountain and spent two or three hours walking to visit his 90-year-old grandmother.

Grandma was shocked!

After rehabilitation training, Xiongdong lost his crutches and walked completely on his feet. It can also help the family with work. “Run fast, walk fast, work with heavy loads, and it’s okay to pick a hundred or a few catties.

It's still this rural elementary school, or this classroom, and it's only 700 meters from home to classroom.

The bear cave for disabled teenagers 10 years ago had to climb for more than half an hour; the college student bear cave 10 years later, he walked to the classroom in just a few minutes.

In the summer of 2020, the 26-year-old "older" college student Xiong Dong returned to his hometown of Liangshan, Sichuan, and became a support teacher in the village where he was studying.

Complete the 9-year course in 6 years

At the age of 25 last year, he successfully entered the university

After standing up, Xiongdong returned to his hometown campus. He woke up early and went to bed every day. He spent all his classmates playing time on self-study. He first completed the third grade course in one semester, and then jumped directly to the fifth grade... , Xiongdong completed 9 years of elementary and junior high school courses in 6 years.

In 2016, he was only 7 points away from the county high school and was finally admitted to the Panzhihua Construction Engineering School, but Xiongdong did not give up his college dream.

In this technical secondary school, Xiongdong studies, exercises, and makes friends, constantly catching up with his peers with optimism and hard work.

He has successively won the top ten campus "self-improvement stars", "ball game style athlete", Sichuan Province's most beautiful "secondary vocational student" and other honors.

He has also kept in touch with well-meaning people who helped him stand up, and through letters and text messages, he told teachers and doctors about the latest situation of his life and study.

There is a doctor who has subsidized Xiongdong 3,000 yuan in tuition and miscellaneous fees every year for 5 consecutive years until he finishes the technical secondary school.

With the help of hospitals, caring companies, and caring people, Xiongdong returned to Shunde in 2016 and worked as an intern in a local company to help his family alleviate the financial burden.

In 2019, Xiongdong ushered in another leap in his life. He was admitted to Sichuan Vocational and Technical College of Engineering with high scores.

University life is intense and fulfilling.

For one year, Xiongdong became a volunteer while completing his studies. He often went to nursing homes and public places to volunteer, helping the elderly squeeze their legs and shoulders, clean their hygiene, and promote garbage classification.

  Back to Dashan Village

This summer, he became a support teacher

In Xiongdong during the summer vacation in July 2020, I originally planned to go to Chengdu to find a part-time job. On the one hand, I exercise my abilities, and on the other hand, I also supplement my family. The old photos touched him, and he had a new idea: there, with the help of many teachers, I changed my destiny.

Now as a local, I am able to help others even after I go to university. I want to gather the children in the village, give them lessons, and share with them the excitement of the outside world.

He bought learning materials at his own expense, and asked parents of school-age children to send notices and clean up idle classrooms.

On July 18, the "Summer Class" of Lanfangzi Village Primary School officially opened.

There are more than 20 students who come to the class, ranging from the second to the sixth grade, with 7 hours of classes a day.

In order to prepare lessons, Xiongdong is often busy until two or three in the morning.

College student Yang Lixiu was moved by Xiongdong's perseverance and came to join the ranks of supporting teachers at his own expense.

In his spare time, the children love to inquire about the scenery, people and things outside the mountain from Xiongdong. Their curious eyes have inspired Xiongdong. He is very willing to be the "eyes" for children to look outside the mountain.

Xiongdong, who has returned to the university campus, told Ziniu News that although the 35-day teaching time is short, it cannot teach the children too much knowledge. However, he hopes that the children can cultivate the spirit of studying hard immediately and help them broaden their horizons in the future. Get out of the mountains and go further, thus changing your life and hometown.
