The operation had been carefully prepared.

Thursday evening, around 11 p.m., around fifty police officers were deployed for a spectacular control operation carried out in the historic center of Rennes.

While the rue de la Soif was copiously stocked with the return of the students, the police carried out numerous checks among the foreign minors present on the spot.

For several months, the latter have been accused of multiple assaults and violence in the city center of the Breton capital.

Taking advantage of recent reinforcements - 38 new agents have been integrated - the Rennes police have placed seven young men in custody.

Four minors and three adults were heard during the night for carrying weapons, possession of narcotics and attempted theft.

It is not yet clear what lawsuits will be initiated.

Present on the scene in the company of the public prosecutor, the prefect Michèle Kirry welcomed this "punch action" and promised that it would be renewed in order "to show Rennes that the police are present".

The representative of the State considers that the Breton capital “was under-staffed” in terms of police personnel and welcomes the recent arrival of 38 new agents decided at the national level.

“The method has changed and that's a very good thing”.
