Director Francis Ford Coppola -

Serge Arnal / Starface

Even the biggest fans of the

Godfather

cinema saga

agree that the third part of the adaptation of Mario Puzo's novel was the least successful.

And it looks like Francis Ford Coppola agrees.

The legendary director, who has never hidden that he would have liked to be able to rewrite his film, was awaiting the agreement of Paramount.

The studio has finally authorized it.

In a press release, we learn that

The Godfather 3 will

benefit from a new title,

Mario Puzo's The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone

, from a restoration in good and due form, but also and above all from a cinema release before to be available on VOD.

"Mr. Coppola directed the entire restoration of the film while working on the new cut, to ensure that not only did the film look and sound perfect, but also that it lived up to his personal and directorial standards. ", Said Andrea Kalas, head of the Paramount archives, who worked with the filmmaker.

More appropriate

In a statement, Francis Ford Coppola hinted that the version of the film that landed on screens around the world 30 years ago was not quite the one he wanted to deliver to audiences.

Mario Puzo's The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone

is a way of highlighting the title that Mario (Puzo) and I preferred as the original title and our initial intentions for what has become

The Godfather 3

.

For this new version, I created a new beginning and I rearranged some scenes, shots, music at the end.

With these changes and the images restored, for me, this is a more appropriate conclusion for

The Godfather

and

The Godfather 2,

 ”said the movie legend.

Paramount has not announced a specific release date for this new version, but since the film was released in December 1990 in the United States, we can expect it before the end of the year, probably for the holidays.
