Speaking of Su Shi, you might say that this is a very talented and very interesting poet, painter, calligrapher... and even his favorite delicacies can be read a few.

But when it comes to Su Che, you might only say: Oh, he is Su Shi's younger brother.

In front of the "super idol" Su Shi, his younger brother Su Che seems to be often "outsided" by everyone.

As one of the eight great masters of the Tang and Song dynasties, Su Che is also very talented. The profound relationship between the two brothers is even more a good story in history.

Was a passionate boy

During the Northern Song Dynasty, Su Xun of Meizhou, Sichuan decided to take his two sons out for trials and went to Beijing to take the imperial examination. The final results were announced, and both of them were in the ranks of the first grade.

At that time, Su Shi was 21 years old and Su Che was 19 years old.

Su Xun was tortured by exams for half his life, but he cultivated two college tyrants in one fell swoop. He was both gratified and emotional: "If it is not easy to learn, an old man is like climbing to the sky. If it is difficult to learn, a child is like picking up mustard."

A few years later, the two brothers were recommended to participate in the examination of the system. Song Renzong personally selected those who were able to speak out. Su Shi's "Imperial Examination System Science Policy" scored very well.

But he didn't know that his brother threw a "bomb" directly:

In the essay written by Su Zheyang, he aimed at Song Renzong as soon as he came up, accusing him of neglecting political affairs, indulging in sensuality, and abusing people’s wealth. The article quickly caused an uproar in the court, but Song Renzong was not too angry: I'm looking for Those who are bluntly admonish, if people like Su Che don't want them, what should the people of the world say about me?

As a result, the two brothers were admitted at the same time again, and they became famous in Beijing.

Su Shi and Su Che have been together for more than 20 years, and Su Shi and Su Che have a deep relationship. In the early days of their officialdom, they agreed to retire later and live a life of leisure of "going back to the forest together and raining in bed at night".

In the days when they were officials and gathered little together, the two often used singing and poetry to communicate.

Su Shi was very concerned about his younger brother who was in charge of secretary in Qizhou (now Jinan, Shandong), so he asked to be transferred to Mizhou after the Hangzhou pass sentence expired, so that he could be closer to Su Zhe.

On a mid-autumn reunion night, Su Shi toasted to the moon and wrote the famous "Shui Tiao Song Tou":

"When is the bright moon? Ask the blue sky about the wine. I don't know what year the palace is in the sky. I don't know what year it is tonight. I want to go back by the wind, but I fear Qionglou Yuyu will be cold from the heights. Dance to figure out how the shadows look like in the world. Turn to Zhu Pavilion, There is no sleep in the low-lying households. There should be no hate. Whatever is long to the other time. People have sorrows and joys, and the moon has cloudy and sunny. This is a difficult matter in ancient times. I hope that people will be long, and there will be thousands of miles."

In the small preface to this poem, Su Shi wrote: "Bingchen Mid-Autumn Festival, drinking happily, and getting drunk. When writing this article, it is also the reason for the child."

Brother, I'll save you!

Su Xun once wrote an article "The Two Sons of Names", introducing the names of Su Shi and Su Che:

Shi is a crossbar at the front end of the carriage. Su Xun hopes that Su Shi can be like Che Shi. Although he is in a prominent position in the car, he can hide his edge and be good at protecting himself.

The rut is the trace of the wheel. When talking about the credit of the car, it will not be thought of the rut, but if an accident occurs, it will not be counted on its head. Su Xun believes that Su Che will definitely avoid disasters in the future.

As the saying goes, knowing a child is like a father, Su Shi is innocent and straightforward, and Su Che is calm and cautious. The future experience of the two indeed confirmed his father's prophecy.

In the second year of Yuanfeng (1079 AD), the Wutai poem case happened. He Zhengchen and others picked out Su Shi’s works and listed the charges, saying that he fooled the court and had no righteousness to respect the emperor. Su Shi was imprisoned in Yushitai prison for this reason. Up to a hundred days.

He was tortured in prison and once thought that he would die here, so he wrote two poems to say goodbye to his younger brother: "Brothers to the emperor's world, and even more for the future."

After receiving the letter from his brother, Su Che, who was anxious, immediately played, earnestly hope that the court will cut off his official position and make atonement for his brother:

"The minister had lost his parents a long time ago, but his brother Shi was alone, and he must be his life... The minister wanted to beg to be in the body, to redeem his brother Shi. He did not dare to reduce his crime, but he was fortunate not to go to prison."

After the Wutaishi case, Su Che not only wrote to comfort his brother in prison, he also took on the task of taking care of his brother's family in a difficult life.

Later, Su Shi was finally released from prison under various rescues and was demoted to Huangzhou. Su Che was also affected and demoted to Yunzhou.

This incident changed the fate of Su Shi and Su Zhe, and also changed their literary creation direction.

In the eyes of many people, Su Shi's literary achievements are much higher than Su Zhe, but Su Shi once commented that Zi You's articles are actually better written, "His writings are like his own, so Wang Yang is indifferent and has three sighs; And its genius is indispensable in the end."

Same ups and downs and sufferings

Jinshi of the same discipline, same imperial examination, the same dynasty as officials, the eunuch has been up and down for decades, the fate of the brothers' promotion and relegation are very similar.

In the first year of Yuanyou (1086 AD), the young Song Zhezong succeeded to the throne. The Empress Gao took charge and resumed the use of those who had been demoted for opposing the new law. Soon, the Su brothers began to serve as officials in the same court.

Compared with his brother, Su Che has a richer career experience.

After being hired this time, Su Zhe went all the way up, tired to move to the living man, Zhongshusheren, and household minister. Later he was promoted to deputy minister and reached the peak of his career.

However, things are impermanent. After the death of Queen Mother Gao, Zhezong completely abolished the "Yuanyou Party members". Su Shi and Su Zhe were the first to bear the brunt. The two suffered multiple relegations in just a few years.

In the fourth year of Shaosheng (1097 AD), Su Shi was demoted to Danzhou, Hainan, and Su Che was demoted to Leizhou, Guangdong. One was a desolate island and the other was the southern end of the land. Su Shi also joked to Su Che: It’s okay, can you allow us The two looked at each other across the sea, and both were grateful to the emperor's grace.

The two brothers met on the way to relegation. They traveled to Leizhou, different from the vast sea.

No one thought that it would be the last time they met in their lives.

When facing each other across the sea, the two brothers often wrote poems to comfort each other. Su Che was not used to eating local food. Su Shi comforted him to go to the countryside and follow the customs. On Su Che’s birthday, he also received a gift from his brother-with A walking stick made from the Hainan specialty "Huangzimu".

Wait and wait, they finally waited for the day when the world was amnesty. Su Che settled in Yingchang (now Xuchang, Henan) and tried to invite his brother to live with him.

Unfortunately, Su Shi suffered a lot of heat on his way home from the north and died in Changzhou.

Before he died, his biggest regret was that he didn’t see his younger brother: “It’s just that I’m the only one who’s degrading and returning, and I can’t see it at first sight. This pain is embarrassing.” He left his entrustment: “I will die, and I will be buried under the Songshan Mountain. I Ming."

Su Che's death made Su Che distraught. A few years later, when Su Che was sorting out his old books, he found "He Yuanming Returns" written by Su Qi. He couldn't help but feel sad and reconcile: "Go back, come back, come back. Who is there to swim with?"

The two brothers’ promises of "Yeyu on the bed" are still in my ears, but now, only one old man is left "Yeyu mourns alone."

In the second year of Zhenghe (1112 AD), Su Zhe died of Yingchang. He was 74 years old and was buried with his brother.

"Song History·Su Zhe Biography" records: "Zhe and his brother enter and exit, all are different, in the midst of adversity, friendship is abiding, no less grievances, rare in ancient times." (End)
