Walid Zaidi became the first blind to hold the position of Minister of Cultural Affairs in the history of Tunisia, after parliament gave confidence to a new government, headed by Hicham El Mechichi, early yesterday.

Al-Zaidi was born on April 30, 1986, in the state of El-Kef. He is the first blind Tunisian to obtain a doctorate in literature, after discussing his thesis at the College of Arts, Arts and Humanities in the state of Manouba.

Al-Zubaidi lost his eyesight at a young age, obtained a baccalaureate degree from the Institute for the Blind in Sousse, then joined the Preparatory Institute for Literary Studies and Humanities in Gorjani, before continuing his studies at the Higher Teachers' House in Tunis.

He worked as a professor of translation and rhetoric at the Faculty of Arts, Arts and Humanities in Manouba, and a researcher specializing in rhetorical and deliberative sciences, as well as a researcher in the psychology of disability.

Al-Zaidi said, in a press statement, after his choice to occupy the position: “My project, basically, is to convey culture to the obscure, to the forgotten, to deliver culture to children who are born in remote areas, and who are interrupted between them and culture for reasons .. My bet is for the citizen to participate no matter what Was his age or class in the production of culture ».

And between the announcement of the proposed formation and the holding of the voting session on the government, Al-Zaidi had expressed his abstention from accepting the position, which prompted the prime minister to abandon his candidacy, but the President of the Republic, Qais Saeed, stuck him in the government formation.

Al-Zaidi, who has been dubbed "Taha Hussein Tunisia", is also good at playing the oud, singing and writing poetry.
