To set up a test and research reactor on the site of "Monju" that has been decided to decommission 5:16 on September 3

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has summarized the policy of creating a small-scale test research reactor for the purpose of human resources development in the nuclear field on the site of the fast reactor "Monju" in Fukui Prefecture where the decommissioning was decided.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has proceeded with a study to build a test and research reactor in response to local requests after the decommissioning of the fast reactor "Monju" in Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture, which was developed by the government, was decided four years ago. It was.

Then, on the 2nd, we summarized the policy of creating a test and research reactor using neutron beams with a mechanism different from that of the fast reactor on the hill on the site of Monju.

The output is less than 10,000 kilowatts, which is the same scale as Kyoto University's research reactor, and it aims to utilize not only the nuclear field but also other fields such as material research and life science.

Since many research reactors at universities are aging, the government wants to make it a core base for research and development and human resource development.

The construction cost is estimated to be around 50 billion yen, and the country will start detailed design from 2022.
