Big Heart, the global humanitarian organization concerned with helping refugees and needy people around the world, has announced the opening of the nominations for the fifth session of the Sharjah International Award for Advocacy and Support for Refugees for the year 2021, provided that nominations are received through the Foundation’s website, until October 31, when the foundation opens The room for institutions and individuals to nominate any local humanitarian organization or institution working in support and advocacy for refugees in the continents of Asia and Africa.

The award is organized under the patronage and support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and his wife Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of the Big Heart Foundation. The prize, which has been organized annually since 2017, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Affairs Refugees, 500 thousand dirhams, a special contribution from the Foundation, and the prize value is not calculated from any donations made to the Foundation.

The award is dedicated to local humanitarian organizations in Asia and Africa, which have provided exceptional services to refugees and forcibly displaced from their countries, and have left positive, sustainable impacts on their lives and their needs in general, and their ability to access food, health care, psychological and education.

The criteria for participating in the award include that the participating organization is officially registered as a non-profit organization working in the humanitarian field, providing humanitarian and social services for a period of not less than one year from the date of nomination for the award, and that its values ​​and behaviors are consistent with the values ​​of the Big Heart Foundation and the United Nations High Commissioner. For refugees, organizations can apply to run for office, or be nominated by individuals or other organizations.
