"Archaeological Girl" Zhong Fangrong enters Peking University

On September 1, Peking University welcomed more than 3,300 undergraduate freshmen of class 2020 who came to register.

This year the school admitted 4326 freshmen, who will arrive in Yanyuan in batches.

According to the Admissions Office of Peking University, the youngest student admitted this year was born in 2005 and just turned 15 this year.

This year, a total of 4 pairs of twins entered Peking University hand in hand to start a new study and life.

Among the newcomers, there is a girl wearing a black hat, short hair with long ears, wearing a light blue shirt and jeans, Zhong Fangrong, a favorite of the archaeological community.

Zhong Fangrong, from Leiyang, Hunan, was still wearing a ponytail when interviewed by CCTV on August 27.

Regarding the new haircut before the beginning of school, Zhong Fangrong said that short hair is more convenient to take care of.

In an interview with the media, Zhong Fangrong expressed the hope that he can concentrate on learning professional knowledge during the university and not be disturbed by the outside world too much.

She also said that next, her biggest wish is to visit the Forbidden City.

  "Archaeological girl" recognized by security

At around 9 in the morning, Zhong Fangrong came to Beijing Daegu Deba Gymnasium to line up. This is the "first stop" for welcoming undergraduate freshmen.

Zhong Fangrong, who changed his hair style and wore a hat and mask, was difficult to recognize among the freshmen on the day of registration.

However, she confessed that she did not expect to be recognized by a uniformed staff member.

"The other party asked me if I was the girl who applied for the archaeology major in the news." Zhong Fangrong was a little embarrassed at the time, and answered "Yes", looking at the clothes, the other party was a security guard.

In order to be able to report to the school early on September 1, Zhong Fangrong arrived in Beijing by high-speed rail with her classmate from high school and another girl who was admitted to Peking University Foreign Language School on August 31.

It takes more than 8 hours to take the high-speed train from Leiyang, Hunan to Beijing.

Zhong Fangrong's father originally bought a train ticket to take her to Peking University, but in the end he was too busy to travel.

Fortunately, Zhong Fangrong's uncle is in Beijing.

After leaving the station at 9pm on August 31, she and her classmates were taken to rest at home by their uncles for one night. They came to Peking University to report in the morning on September 1.

"There are more than 50 people majoring in archaeology this year"

Zhong Fangrong is not tall, her small face is mostly covered by the mask, but she does things cleanly.

Less than 10 o'clock, she completed the registration and went to the dormitory with other students.

In 2017, Zhong Fangrong visited Peking University as a tourist.

But coming here again three years later, Peking University is still a big and unfamiliar garden to her.

However, she showed consistent calm and rationality, turned on the phone navigation, and it took 10 minutes to find the dormitory building she was going to move in.

Then, Zhong Fangrong quickly completed the procedures from check-in to laying bed sheets and hanging mosquito nets.

When she was talking, she had placed a lamp from her hometown on the desk in the dormitory, which was convenient for reading and studying.

On the first day of college life, Zhong Fangrong had already decided that he would go to the library to study more in the future.

According to Zhong Fangrong, in the established class group, there are more than 50 students majoring in archaeology this year. "It's not as unpopular as everyone thinks. There are still many people reporting archaeology."

There are three books in the "admission package"

When registering on September 1, Zhong Fangrong received the "Entrance Gift Package" prepared by the School of Archaeology, Culture and Museum of Peking University for freshmen. Among them were three books related to archaeology-"My Heart Home Is Dunhuang: Fan Jinshi's Self-Explanation", "The Beginning of Archaeology" Order" and "My Father Su Bingqi: An Archaeologist and His Time".

Zhong Fangrong felt familiar and intimate with the book "My Heart is Dunhuang: Fan Jinshi's Narrative".

After finishing check-in to the dormitory to organize his belongings, he saw the newly released book, and Zhong Fangrong, who was so calm as to be "unsmiling", said happily, "The book "My Heart Comes With Dunhuang: Fan Jinshi's Self-explanation" that I received before has a fan. Mr. Signature."

Regarding the following college life, Zhong Fangrong said that she hopes to continue to study hard, "Be quiet and not be disturbed by the outside world too much."

Before that, Zhong Fangrong applied for the archaeology major, which aroused heated discussion in the society.

In response to this, Chen Jianli, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Archaeology, Culture, and Museology of Peking University said in an interview that students do not want to be disturbed too much, and the college does its best to protect students.

Chen Jianli emphasized that it is not just Zhong Fangrong. Any student who comes to Peking University, comes to the college, and likes archaeology, the college has the responsibility to educate and cultivate them well. "Finding their own interests is the most important thing."

The primary consideration in choosing a major is still interest

This year, Peking University's School of Archaeology, Culture and Museum welcomes more than 50 new students. Beijing girl Dong Siqi is one of them.

"I like history and visit museums." Dong Siqi feels that her character and archaeology are "a perfect match", and she wants to quietly do something she likes.

During the summer vacation, she had seen news about Zhong Fangrong on the Internet.

At that time, Dong Siqi was not sure whether he could enter the School of Archaeology, Art and Museum of Peking University. What he felt was envy of this future classmate—it was great to go to Peking University to study archaeology.

Dong Siqi feels that his peers around him have no "prejudice" towards archaeology, nor will they deliberately avoid it because it is a so-called "unpopular profession".

She looked forward to this kind of life "in the study and in the field".

"I am willing to live a materially ordinary life. I will definitely stay in this field in the future. After graduation, I may go to a research institute, an archaeological team or a museum, all of which are fine."

Students who have devoted themselves to basic subjects also said the same thing in their conversation-interest.

Chen Yuxiao, a student from Shanghai, chose physics without hesitation after the college entrance examination scores were released.

He likes quantum physics, thinks it is "uncommon sense", and wants to do more explorations in the microcosm in the future.

The student Lv Zhe is also devoted to physics.

"I haven't considered other majors." Lu Zhe said that physics is a basic subject. If you study physics, you can have a wider range of career choices in the future.

Moreover, the physical world fascinates him.

If there is a chance in the future, Lu Zhe hopes to do scientific research.

"Continuously breaking through the boundaries of knowledge, discovering new things, looking for patterns, this makes me feel very interesting."

In fact, many students in the same grade as Lu Zhe went to other majors.

"From the students' choices, physics is at least not popular." However, indifference is not important to individuals. Lu Zhe said frankly that the primary consideration in choosing a major is still interest and hobbies.

Zhao Wenxin, a girl who came to Peking University from Qinghai, studied mathematics, which was also her first choice when applying for a volunteer.

"There is a saying that science changes the world, and mathematics changes science." Zhao Wenxin said, "I think that if you want to make great progress in science, the first breakthrough is mathematics." She is looking forward to improving mathematics. Breakthroughs are transformed into scientific applications, which will have a greater impact worldwide.
