Infectious disease of pigs Two years before the outbreak of CSF, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries meeting for countermeasures September 1, 15:24

Two years after CSF (porcine fever), which is an infectious disease of pigs, occurred in Japan for the first time in 26 years, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries held a countermeasures meeting, and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries spread the infection again. In order to prevent the situation, I instructed them to take measures with a sense of tension.

CSF=porcine fever, which is an infectious disease of pigs, occurred on the 9th of October at the farm in Gifu prefecture in Japan for the first time in 26 years, after which the infection spread and more than 160,000 pigs were killed.

After that, vaccination proceeded, and since the outbreak in Okinawa prefecture in March this year, there has been no confirmed infection of pigs, but infection of wild boars to pigs has been confirmed, and it has not yet converged.

At the meeting of the task force held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on the 1st, Mr. Eto said, “First of all, I feel relaxed over time, but I feel nervous again and the pig farmer feels reassured as much as possible and in the future. I want you to work on your hope."

Next, we confirmed that we will continue to call for thorough hygiene management, such as installing fences to prevent invasion of wild animals, and strengthen the capture of wild boars in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment.

With regard to swine fever, the challenge is to reduce the infection of wild boars while suppressing new infections of pigs, and to establish a path toward convergence.
