In the show "Without appointment", a listener wondered Tuesday how it was possible to calculate his ovulation date.

According to Jimmy Mohamed, it depends on many parameters and the date varies depending on the length of the cycle.

In the program "Sans rendez-vous", doctor Jimmy Mohamed answers questions from listeners.

On Tuesday, Sandra, 28, wondered how she could calculate her ovulation date.

"It's not that simple because this date varies depending on a lot of parameters", replied Jimmy Mohamed.

“Not all women are equal when it comes to this. You have to know how long your cycle is. If it lasts 28 days, you ovulate around day 14. If you have a 30-day cycle, you take 14 days out and so you ovulate on day 16. It gives you an idea of the date, ”he explained.

Doctor Jimmy Mohamed also recalled that the egg survives between 12 and 24 hours.

In contrast, the sperm has a duration of three days.

"So you don't have to fall right on the day of ovulation" if you want to conceive a child, he added.

Ovulation tests exist

To learn more about the day of ovulation, tests can also help.

"These are urine tests. When we approach the day of ovulation, we can do the test. It will detect the hormone called 'LH', which is secreted by a gland in the brain. . When the date of ovulation approaches, there is a peak of this hormone which will be detectable in the urine and the test will be positive. This means that you will ovulate within 24 hours, "explained Jimmy Mohamed.

Laboratories say the tests are 99% reliable.

Finally, the doctor also recalled that to put all the chances on his side to conceive a baby, it is also necessary to stop some toxic substances.

This concerns both women and men.

"You have to stop smoking and drinking, watch your diet or lose weight. This allows you to have sperm in better shape and therefore optimize your chances of having children," advised Jimmy Mohamed.
