Framework for joint purchase of new corona vaccine Japan intends to participate Japanese Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare 13:47 September 1st

Regarding the new coronavirus vaccine, Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare Kato expressed Japan's intention to participate in the international framework, which is jointly purchased in countries around the world and supplied to developing countries.

The international framework “COVAX Facility”, in which each country jointly purchases multiple new coronavirus vaccines, is a mechanism in which developed countries donate funds to purchase their own vaccines and also supply them to developing countries. I have been considering whether or not Japan will also participate.

Regarding this, Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare Kato expressed his intention to participate in the framework at a press conference, saying, ``Japan has already reached a basic agreement on vaccine supply with several companies, but it will be one means of securing vaccines in Japan. And contribute to the equitable dissemination of vaccines to low-income countries."

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the framework aims to produce 2 billion doses of vaccine by the end of next year.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will further consider the amount to be contributed.
