The last day of August has resulted in more than 20,000 infections since Friday.

The report published this Monday by the Ministry of Health

registers 23,572 new confirmed cases in the last 72 hours

(the figures are not updated on weekends), an average of almost 8,000 daily.

In this way, there are already 462,858 people infected by the virus since the beginning of this pandemic.

Of these 23,572 positives, 2,489 have been reported with PCR performed in the last 24 hours.

Most of them in Madrid (554), the Basque Country (394) and Andalusia (308).

Health has also reported

83 new deaths since Friday

, which add up to an official total of 29,011 people who have lost their lives in our country due to the covid.

It should be remembered that this figure does not include those who died in residences or those with symptoms of the virus, but who did not undergo the PCR test.

With a death date in the last week, 141 deaths have been reported.

"These are figures that are still high but must be contextualized in a case detection framework, of which many are asymptomatic, at the national level we are in a relatively stable situation," said the director of the Alerts and Emergencies Coordination Center. Sanitary,

Fernando Simón

.

"We are not at all in the situation of the months of March and April," continued Simón, who pointed out that "the Community of Madrid has almost a fifth of the total reported cases, just over 20%, followed by the Country Basque".

Regarding the return of children to school, Simón has stated that he understands the "concern" of parents: "If they (teachers) apply prevention measures, and parents apply prevention measures ... if we achieve all this, the probability of transmission will never be cerp, but we can get closer. Nobody thinks that if one in 10 children is infected outside of school, in schools we will prevent one in 10 children from becoming infected ".

Hospital admissions and capacity

In terms of income, these fell slightly: the official count has registered 1,656 in the last seven days, 37 less than on Friday, when 1,693 were notified.

Likewise, 750 patients have been hospitalized in the last 24 hours (on Friday, 958).

Madrid is the community that has reported the most hospitalizations during the last week (420), followed by Andalusia (254), and Castilla y León (156).

On the other hand, 133 patients have entered the ICU in the same period of time and 67 more have been registered since Friday.

In this way, there are already 12,312 patients with coronavirus who have required this hospital unit since the start of the pandemic.

On the other hand,

301 people have been discharged in the last day

.

Regarding the healthcare capacity of hospitals to cover Covid admissions, the report reports that, on average, the current percentage of occupied beds is 6% (the same as on Friday) Madrid and Aragón are the communities with the most occupation, with 16% and 13%, respectively.

The Balearic Islands and the Basque Country are in third and fourth place, with 11%.

At the European level, Spain continues to be the second European country with the most infections since the beginning of the pandemic (462,858), only behind Russia (990,326).

They are also followed by the United Kingdom and France, ahead of Italy, with 334,467 and 277,943, respectively.

The country with the highest number of deaths continues to be the United Kingdom (41,499), followed by Italy (35,477) and France (30,606).

In addition, Spain continues to lead in cumulative incidence (AI) in the last 14 days among the European countries that have registered the most infections.

Our country already exceeds 200 infections per 100,000 inhabitants (205, specifically).

It is a figure that is more than double that of the second country with the most AI: France, with 87.9 infected and that since Friday surpasses Romania, with an AI rate of 72.
