After presenting the measures taken for the start of the school year in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic, the minister is now attacking the salaries and careers of teachers, as well as the modernization of education.
Working groups launched at the start of the school year
"The work of the second part of the five-year term is the upgrading of the profession financially but more generally to improve well-being at work," he recalled. “Happy teachers are happy students. It is this virtuous circle that I wish to strengthen. "" Between now and October, we will be discussing the salary increase for 2021, thanks to the additional 400 million euros obtained. And from November, we will negotiate to define a multiannual programming law. But it also involves a profound transformation of the education system: management of human resources, place of teachers in society… ”, explained Jean-Michel Blanquer in the columns of the JDD .
From the start of the school year, the Ministry of National Education will organize working groups, with the trade unions, to move forward on three points: salary increases, cooperation and openness. On the last point, which concerns modernization, digital meetings will take place in Poitiers in November. The Ministry of National Education will also organize in December an international conference on the teacher of the 21st century.

In early January, salary negotiations were launched with teachers as part of the pension reform but were suspended due to the health crisis. In his interview with the JDD , the minister also tries to reassure before the start of the school year on Tuesday against the backdrop of the epidemic rebound.
