The man is more affected by Corona than the woman ... A study reveals the secret

Health data issued in several countries showed that elderly men are more likely to fall victim to "Covid-19" or to die from it, compared to women of the same age.

This disparity posed a bewilderment to researchers, amid questions about why women are less affected by disease compared to men, according to what was quoted by the New York Times.

The first study of its kind focused on the performance of the immune system of both genders when exposed to infection from outside.

The results showed that the response of the men's immune system is weaker than the response of the woman's body, when dealing with the emerging corona virus, which causes the Covid-19 epidemic.

And the study stated that men, especially those over the age of sixty, need a vaccine more to protect themselves from infection.

The researcher at Yale University of America, Akiko Iwasaki, who is the author of the study, confirmed that infection does not lead to the required and appropriate immune response in a man, according to the American New York Times.

Experts suggest that this immune strength in women is acquired thanks to the reproductive process, because her body is designed to deal with diseases that threaten the safety of the fetus or infant in the postpartum stage.

But the exaggerated response by the immune system may be harmful in many cases, that is, when the body fights an infection in a disproportionate manner, and several infections and health disorders occur.

For this reason, experts say that women are more likely to have health disorders caused by an overreactive immune system.

Dr. Marcus Altfield, a researcher at the Heinrich Beatty Institute for Virology, believes that companies developing vaccines against the Corona virus should take this data into account, because it may be useful in determining the recommended dose for both women and men.

He added that determining the dose of the vaccine is important, because the health condition varies from one age group to another, for example a young person may need only one dose, but an elderly person may need three.

The American study was based on an analysis of the immune response of 17 men and 22 women who were infected with the emerging corona virus and were forced to enter the hospital shortly after exposure to the infection.

The researchers monitored several health aspects of "Covid-19" patients, and they also obtained samples of blood, saliva, swabs of the throat, urine and stool, and they made sure to stay between 3 to 7 days.

The analysis did not include patients who were placed under artificial respirators, and it excluded those taking drugs that affect the performance of the immune system, because the goal is to study the immune response naturally in the human body.
