Michael Douglas Actor - Sarah Stewart / Starface

Michael Douglas decided to step up to the plate as police shot an unarmed black man in Wisconsin last weekend. Jacob Blake, 29, was shot seven times in the back during his arrest, which was filmed by neighbors even though his children were present. For Michael Douglas, this tragedy once again proves that police brutality is a major problem that can no longer be ignored.

“In all of these situations, when we have videos, the question becomes much clearer than before,” he said in an episode of Lifesaving Conversations , an interview series produced by Liberatum.

Overcoming the racial divide

For Michael Douglas, the fact of being in the presence of video evidence prevents debating the veracity of the facts and imposes awareness.

“With what happened in Minneapolis (the death of George Floyd filmed by passers-by), everything was so obvious and clear to so many people that there was no debate. It is not a racial issue of blacks against whites. It's black and white. It is a political problem, more so than before. And I strongly believe that we have a real opportunity to move beyond racial divide more broadly, ”added Michael Douglas.

If Jacob Blake survived the shooting, he will likely remain paralyzed for life.
