The tourists were numerous this summer on the Breton beaches as here in Dinard. - J. Gicquel / 20 Minutes

The forecasts were confirmed. Brittany has served as a safe haven for the French this summer. With 54 million overnight stays recorded during the months of July and August, the summer of 2020 should be "one of the best vintages of the last ten years" in the region, according to the Regional Tourism Committee (CRT). Brittany thus comes second in the ranking of favorite destinations for the French this summer, behind the New Aquitaine region but ahead of Occitanie.

I am delighted with the good figures for tourism in #Bretagne this summer and I thank our visitors for their trust. Let us all remain mobilized for a successful fall to come!

Despite the health context, the region has therefore managed to do well and reassure the French, taking advantage in particular of "its large spaces conducive to natural compliance with the rules of distancing". The appearance of clusters during the summer, as in Quiberon, has given tourism professionals some cold sweats. But the latter are on the whole rather happy with their season with 82% of accommodation professionals satisfied.

The Bretons took the opportunity to visit their region

In the absence of foreigners, they were able to count on the support of the Bretons who took advantage of this special summer to discover or rediscover their region. If the sky cleared this summer, the time is not either for euphoria with "concerns for the rest of the season", indicates the CRT. Because at the end of August, "attendance stopped quickly". And the resurgence of the epidemic in recent days "has stopped the desire for late holidays".

Very uncertain, the month of September will therefore depend on the weather but also and above all on the evolution of the epidemic. "Professionals hope that retirees, the main clientele during this period, will not remain confined," said the regional tourism committee.
