  • Criticisms related to wearing masks have become recurrent on social networks.
  • A Facebook post denouncing the obligation to wear a mask in a forest has been shared and denounced by Internet users.
  • This obligation actually concerns a site in the region of Brussels, Belgium.

The decisions taken by the French authorities to fight the spread of the coronavirus are regularly the subject of criticism from Internet users, in particular those opposed to wearing a mask outdoors. In a particularly viral post published at the beginning of the week in a Facebook group, a French "anti-mask" denounces, photo in support, the wearing of the mask imposed in a forest.

“A new dictatorship is fast approaching”, “Quite rubbish”, “Abominably stupid! », Comment, ulcerated, several people. "This Macron government wants everything but our good," assures another user, in response to one of the publication's many shares.

Many Internet users residing in France have shared this publication, some attacking Emmanuel Macron directly, such as this Facebook user: talents in the precautionary principle. "

However, even if the cliché is authentic, it does not concern France but Belgium, where wearing a mask has been compulsory in all outdoor public spaces in the Brussels region since mid-August.

FAKE OFF

According to research by 20 Minutes , this snapshot was first published on Facebook on August 24 by a Brussels psychiatrist. The latter mentions the place where the photo was taken, namely the Forêt de Soignes, a few kilometers south-east of Brussels. The author of the publication does not hide his opposition to wearing a mask outside, denouncing "one of the peaks of the delirium of summer 2020".

On social networks, several publications using the same photo fail to mention its source, leading some Internet users to believe that such an obligation concerns France. However, the mask is compulsory in closed public spaces in France, as well as in the streets of certain large cities, in particular in Paris or Lyon. In Marseille, it must now be used throughout the municipality. Wearing a mask therefore does not concern natural areas in France.

Asked this Wednesday morning on France Inter about “anti-masks”, Prime Minister Jean Castex wanted to recall that this habit is “extremely useful” to fight against the spread of the coronavirus. “And ultimately, [if the anti-masks] don't think it [useful] for themselves because they believe they are invincible, let them think of others! They all, the anti-masks, fragile people in their families. I appeal to the spirit of responsibility. "
