Manal Bint Muhammad: “Gender balance” has become a method of work and an institutional culture
The wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Emirates Council for Gender Balance, said that the “Gender Data Bank” project comes within the framework of the Council’s keenness to launch New initiatives achieve the vision and directives of the wise leadership, by reducing the gender gap in all sectors of the country, raising the UAE's position in global reports, and making it a reference for balance legislation in the region.
Her Highness praised the support of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, for the file of gender balance in the country, and her initiatives to advance Emirati women and bring them to the world.
Her Highness explained that the “Gender Data Bank” is a comprehensive national database of gender data, in federal and local authorities, disaggregated by gender. Her Highness affirmed that having data disaggregated by gender will help to identify the needs of each gender separately, and provide opportunities and needs. Based on the available data, in addition to introducing innovative policies, reviewing and amending the legislation supporting each of them, thus reducing the gender gap in various fields, such as education, work and health, which makes this project a reliable and accurate source of information that benefits the decision maker.
Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum praised the progress achieved in the field of gender balance in the country's institutions, as it has become a work methodology and an institutional culture that supports the national vision and goals, noting that there are many positive statistics in these institutions that are documented annually by the Federal Competitiveness Authority. And statistics, which would support the country's position globally.
Her Highness added that this initiative was designed according to the highest international standards and methodologies made possible by cooperation and partnership relations with countries and international organizations with distinguished expertise and experiences in gender policies. The bank will provide one integrated window for reliable and accurate data in support of the decision maker and sound strategic planning, as it will include «Data Bank. Gender », in addition to statistical information, gender-related policies, initiatives and programs of state institutions, budgets allocated to it, reports of the state’s achievements in this field, and a list of international reports and the status of the UAE in each of them.
