Although already dramatic, the results of the floods in Afghanistan are only provisional. At least 70 people perished in flash floods caused by heavy rainfall overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in the town of Charikar, north of Kabul. The figures are regularly updated by Abdul Qasim Sangin, head of the hospital in Parwan province.

At least 110 people were injured and more than 300 houses were also destroyed. Many children are among those deceased, said the Ministry of Emergency Management.
Flood disasters are frequent in the country, especially in poor rural areas, where many fragile houses collapse during heavy rains. At least 15 children and a woman died in a flash flood several weeks ago in a village in eastern Nangarhar province.
