Like all other organs, the penis can suffer from sores or sometimes impressive injuries. Guest of "Sans Rendez-vous" this Tuesday, urologist Marc Galiano reviews the four most famous accidents and explains what to do if, unfortunately, they occur.

Small or large, the penis, like all other organs, can suffer a few injuries during a man's life. Often the object of fear, even panic among some, especially because of a lack of knowledge, these ailments can be mitigated with good practices. Guest of "Sans Rendez-vous" this Tuesday on Europe 1, the Parisian andrologist and urologist Marc Galiano looks back on the four most famous accidents, and explains what to do if unfortunately they occur.

Breaking the brake

Perhaps the most well-known of penile accidents, rupture of the frenulum has a reputation for being extremely painful, but it actually depends on the depth of the rupture. "The frenulum is the small thread on the ventral surface of the glans allowing the foreskin to come back on the latter. In this thread pass a vein and an artery." If the first is cut, it is the least serious form of the rupture, there will be a bleeding but by "compressing a little, it will stop", explains the specialist, co-author of the book My sex and me . "So we must not be alert."

It becomes more serious, and more impressive, if it is the artery that is affected. “It's a bit like a little horror movie,” with profuse bleeding, warns the urologist. We must then "go to the hospital for an emergency suture". In general, Marc Galiano however advises to consult after a break, even benign, which specifies that this accident can happen even during a sexual intercourse with the classic intensity.

Elongation, or tendonitis of the penis

Tendonitis of the penis, the elongation of the penis occurs when the "suspensory ligaments of the penis" are put to too much use, details Marc Galiano. The specialist also explains that it is these tendons "that some surgeons cut during an operation to lengthen the size of the penis at rest". The elongation occurs in "certain positions where the penis will be pulled very hard downwards" and turns out to be very painful, especially if it goes to the point of rupture. "In these cases, a lot of times the ligaments repair themselves, but that requires a month's rest and treatment with anti-inflammatory drugs."

The cracking too long

Accident often affecting children, "but also older people", the excessively long scaling occurs when one "unwinds the foreskin while it is a little tight". This can cause edema, whereby the lining under the skin of the foreskin begins to swell, preventing it from re-scaling. An accident which can be quite serious, since if it is not treated in time, it can trigger necrosis. It is therefore not necessary "to wait three or four hours, and very often to solve this problem alone", advises the specialist. To do this, there is a technique: "Lubricate, squeeze the fingers on the foreskin, place the thumbs on the glans and try to go up." Concretely, it is a question of doing "a bit as if we put on a sock".

The fly accident

Extremely rare, the fly accident is often seen as a myth. Yet it can happen! We must then act according to the severity of the injury. "Very often this happens to people who are alcoholic at a benign stage" who do not close their pants properly. To free themselves, "they generally make a great movement to open the fly in the opposite direction", and this is enough in the overwhelming majority of cases, "but above all, you must not forget to disinfect". As to whether more serious cases can occur, Marc Galiano has only seen one in his career. The patient was forced to take charge of the operating room, under anesthesia.
