The left mayor of Marseille Michèle Rubirola said Tuesday that we could "not seriously prevent the population from meeting", referring to the probable new measures that should be introduced in the Bouches-du-Rhône to deal with the spread of Covid-19.

“We are still in the summer, it is still very hot, there are people who are in small apartments, even unsanitary. We are not going to ask them not to meet, ”added the elected representative during a trip to a mobile and free screening center in Belle de Mai, a popular district of the city.

Bars closed earlier?

"We can not seriously prevent the population from finding each other," she insisted, explaining that she had met the prefect on Monday, with his first deputy. On Monday, the new prefect of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region, Christophe Mirmand, had indicated that the situation was "sufficiently alarming for additional measures to be considered" in the Bouches-du-Rhône and in the second city in France.

Among the measures that could be announced, Christophe Mirmand had mentioned in particular "a restriction of the opening hours of restaurants or bars". Tuesday, Michèle Rubirola said she was in favor of a closure "rather around 11 pm to midnight", if it were to be limited. "It seems to us to favor the economy of all those who have suffered from confinement".
