Anne-So Echos de Mots, children's literary blogger and contributor to the 20 Minutes Books reading group , recommends  Emily Roberson's Mytho Story , published on August 20, 2020 by Éditions Pocket Jeunesse.

Her favorite quote:

Destiny is like a huge wave. Each of us is free to tame it or to let ourselves be drawn into the abyss. The choice is ours, not the gods. They can only constrain us if we are docile. We are the ones who shape our future. Whichever road we take, destiny comes our way. So what would happen if you climbed onto the crest of the wave?

Why this book?

  • Because Mytho Story is a kind of Hunger Games populated by characters from Greek mythology. The story of Ariadne, Theseus and the Minotaur is revisited by imagining their fight in a Greece where, every year, 14 Athenian candidates try their luck in the labyrinth to defeat the Minotaur. After 10 years of performing, none got away alive. Ariadne, daughter of King Minos and Guardian of the Labyrinth, is the only one capable of overpowering the Minotaur. Thus, she is responsible for guiding candidates to enter Daedalus' work. And in particular Theseus, bastard son of King Aegean, determined to participate in this 11th edition and to kill the monster.
  • Because this daring and a little wacky adaptation can appeal to lovers of mythology who will find heroes and well-known monsters with pleasure, as well as to neophytes who will also find their account in this first volume full of action and twists. The followers of love stories will also be able to put romance in their mouths by (re) discovering the famous relationship Ariadne / Thésée.
  • Because Mytho Story adopts the same perverse codes as the programs that are on the air nowadays. Daedalus' son, Icarus, a friend of the heroine and also a producer, ensures that audiences reach new heights to satisfy the king, even if it means burning his wings on the altar of TV trash. Between betrayals, manipulations, cruelty and power games, this book has all the ingredients to be a stunning read!
  • Because the scent of betrayal floats above the labyrinth. Ariane, who hates her life under the flashes of the paparazzi, would dream of leaving all this masquerade and moving away from her mother, Pasiphaé. However, she cannot bring herself to abandon the Minotaur; he who means so much to her. When Theseus enters her life, everything is turned upside down. Both the heart of the young woman and everything she took for granted. Above all, she will have to make a choice between the lives of the only two people she really cares about ...
