The Prince of America is gone. Singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle, son of country musician Steve Earle, has passed away at the age of 38. The causes of his death have not yet been revealed.

"It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of our son, husband, father and friend Justin," wrote his relatives in a message posted on his Instagram account this Sunday, August 23.

“So many of you have relied on his music and lyrics over the years. We hope his music will continue to guide you on your travels. We will miss you very much Justin, ”they continue.

Justin Townes Earle struggled with drugs and alcohol

Born January 4, 1982, Justin Townes Earle rose to prominence with the EP Yuma in 2007. He leaves behind nine albums. The title song from his soulful album Harlem River Blues won Song of the Year at the Americana Honors & Awards in 2011. It was named "Emerging Act of the Year" at the American Honors & Awards in 2009 , and nominated as artist of the year in 2012.

Like his father, Earle struggled with drugs and alcohol during his career, but was sober when he started producing records.
