When comics take hold of history

GYPS and its comic strip "Algé-rien". Marsa

By: Eric Bataillon

Comics know very well how to capture historical or recent events or personalities. Thus Mustafa Kemal, father of modern Turkey, including Loulou Dedola, recounts life in "Le Père Turc"; on Algeria, Philippe Richelle offers the first volume of his saga “Algeria, a French war” while GYPS evokes the Algerians of today in his series “The Algerians”.
