Orange alert in Sarthe. The incidence rate of cases tested positive for Covid-19 has exceeded 67 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the prefecture announced Thursday, which is extending the wearing of masks to the entire urban community of Le Mans.
With 67.8 cases tested positive per 100,000 inhabitants over the last seven days, one of the highest in France with Paris and Marseille, the incidence rate in Sarthe is up sharply compared to August 11, when it s 'established at 32 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The alert threshold is set at 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants per week. The positivity rate of the tests is 4.5%, against 3.3% on average in France.

"These indicators confirm that the circulation of the virus, already active in recent weeks, has further accelerated," said the prefecture in a press release, which qualifies these epidemic indicators as "worrying".
The prefect therefore announces that wearing a mask is made compulsory in the public space “in the urban community of Le Mans Métropole, in the community of municipalities of Sablé-sur-Sarthe, as well as in the neighboring municipalities of Changé, Moncé- en-Belin, Saint-Pavace, Neuville-sur-Sarthe, Saint-Mars-La-Brière and Montfort-le-Gesnois ”, from August 22 at 8:00 am.
Joggers and cyclists are also concerned, "day and night," said the press release from the prefecture. The obligation to wear a mask on the department's outdoor public markets, flea markets and garage sales, in force since August 15, also continues to apply.
