A number of well-known cultural personalities, including actor Stellan Skarsgård and author Margaret Atwood, address an open letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. They demand that the EU put pressure on Poland's oppression of LGBTQ people, reports Reuters.
The initiators of the appeal are Polish Nobel Laureate Olga Tokarczuk and director Agnieszka Holland. The open letter states that the EU must defend the equal value of the people by acting against Poland introducing so-called LGBTQ-free zones in several cities.
Among those who signed the letter are also JM Coetzee, Siri Hustvedt, Ian McEwan and Pedro Almodóvar.
