China News Service, Dunhuang, August 19 (Reporter Feng Zhijun) The Dunhuang Cultural Relics Conservation and Research Center of Gansu Province was inaugurated on the 19th at the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang. It breaks the traditional single-disciplinary research work mode of cultural preservation units, and will focus on major scientific issues and technical needs in the frontier field of Dunhuang cultural relics protection, gather and train top talents in cultural heritage protection through multidisciplinary cross-discipline, initiate and organize major domestic and international protection fields research plan.

  The research center relies on the Dunhuang Research Institute and integrates the advantages of Gansu's cultural relics research resources on the basis of scientific research platforms such as the "Key Laboratory of Ancient Murals and Earth Relics Protection in Gansu Province" and "The Engineering Technology Research Center for Ancient Murals and Earth Relics Protection of Gansu Province" Formed. The research team includes professionals in more than 20 disciplines including cultural relics protection, archaeology, Dunhuang studies, chemistry, physics, environmental science, geological engineering, and civil engineering.

  According to the Dunhuang Research Institute, the research center will build Gansu’s highest-level and most internationalized cultural heritage protection research platform, forming a new mechanism conducive to innovation and the output of major achievements, deep integration of technology and culture, and building a world-class level The research base of cultural heritage protection and management, leading the development of cultural heritage protection.

  Focusing on the three main areas of scientific cognition and value mining of cultural heritage, protection technology research and development, and display and utilization, the research center will also conduct research on the overall mining and protection and utilization of cultural heritage value, and strive to achieve comprehensive results on major key scientific issues and key technologies.
