Upon its release on November 4, 2016, 'The Crown' became an immediate hit for Netflix, both due to critical praise and public devotion. Three seasons later, the historical drama that spans the life of Queen Elizabeth II of England is set to return with the long-awaited debut of Princess Diana of Wales. But let's go in parts.

Following the streaming giant's schedule to date, the series' fourth season should debut in late 2020, between November and December . The 10 episodes were filmed between August 2019 and March 2020, at which time the coronavirus crisis forced filming to stop. As the creator of the series, Peter Morgan, explained to IndieWire, there were just a few scenes missing, so they preferred to move on so as not to alter the release date.

The government of Margaret Thatcher , Prime Minister of the United Kingdom between 1979 and 1990, will be the time frame for the next episodes. Gillian Anderson, an American actress known for playing Special Agent Dana Scully in "The X Files," will play the Iron Lady.

He will share the screen with the Oscar-winning Olivia Colman ('Broadchurch', 'The infiltrator', 'The favorite'), who will play Elizabeth II of England as she did in the third installment, Tobias Menzies ('The Terror', 'Outlander') as Prince Philip and Helena Bonham-Carter ('The Wings of the Dove' and 'The King's Speech') as Princess Margaret, both present last season.

After chronicling the youthful idyll between Charles of England and Camilla Parker, played respectively by Josh O'Connor and Emerald Fennell, the fourth season of 'The Crown' will feature Diana of Wales. Actress Emma Corrin, whose striking resemblance to Lady Di is palpable in the footage from the shoot , will play the late princess in her youngest stage. Princes William and Harry will also appear for the first time in this fourth installment.

In regards to the future of the series, 'The Crown' will have two more seasons, the fifth and sixth seasons . Although viewers will have to wait longer than usual to see them. According to Deadline, this year the recording team will take a break, so that the fifth batch will begin recording in June 2021, with the episodes arriving on Netflix in 2022.

Imelda Staunton , an actress known for playing Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter film saga, will play Elizabeth II in the fifth and sixth seasons, while Jonathan Pryce ('Game of Thrones') will do the same with Prince Philip. Lesley Manville ('The Invisible Thread') will be Princess Margaret in the next two installments and Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki will take over with Lady Di.
