According to the arrest video provided by residents at the scene, a large number of arresters surrounded Zeng Chunliang and his motorcycle when he was arrested, and his hands were buckled behind his back and taken away from the scene. On August 8, Kang Shuaihong, a family member of the murder victim, told the Beijing News that the whole family knelt in front of the spirits of their parents after hearing the arrest of the suspect, "my parents can finally look down." Kang Shuaihong also recognized that the hat worn by the suspect Zeng Chunliang when he was arrested belonged to his niece. According to the police report, Zeng Chunliang's address was Hoofang Village, Shandang Town, Le'an County. On August 11, a village cadre in Hoofang Village introduced that Zeng Chunliang had been jailed twice for theft and was released on May 12 this year. After Zeng Chunliang was released from prison, he lived in the guest house in the village. The village committee once offered him a job in the local industrial park with a monthly salary of about 3,000 yuan, but he refused.
Villager: The suspect went out to work after graduating from elementary school, "betting and stealing"
Zeng Cailing (pseudonym), a villager of Hoofang Village, met Zeng Chunliang by chance in early July this year. It hasn't been seen for nearly two decades, but Zeng Cailing recognized him at first sight. Zeng Chunliang's "forehead is smooth", wearing "brown short sleeves and jeans", looks much stronger than before.
Zeng Chunliang handed Zeng Cailing a cigarette and told him that he had just been released from prison in May and had spent a month in Zhejiang before returning home. Zeng Cailing confessed to him, "When you come out, just work hard and don't mix up anymore." Zeng Chun said brightly, and the two exchanged a few words before leaving.
Since then, Zeng Cailing often saw Zeng Chunliang entering and leaving the village at his home. According to Zeng Cailing's understanding, Zeng Chunliang had no job after he was released from prison, and he mostly lived in his brother's house in Hoofang Village.
A reporter from the Beijing News learned that after he was released from prison in May this year, Zeng Chunliang found the village and asked to open a quarry and was rejected. The village introduced him to work in the factory. He felt that his salary was too low.
Zeng Cailing told the Beijing News reporter that he was 16 years old, Zeng Chunliang, almost watching Zeng Chunliang grow up. Zeng Chunliang’s family has six siblings, “four brothers, one sister is the eldest, and the other sister is the youngest. Zeng Chunliang ranks fourth in the family”.
Today, among Zeng Chunliang's five brothers and sisters, except for the eldest sister who married to a neighboring village, three are working in Zhejiang. Brother Zeng Chunliang, who had previously lived in the village, also left the village and moved to the county town after the incident.
In his youth, Zeng Chunliang gave Zeng Cailing the impression that he was "very lively, but he spoke rudely." In the 1990s, after finishing elementary school and before reaching junior high school, Zeng Chunliang left his hometown to work. In Zeng Cailing's view, after leaving home, Zeng Chunliang began to "break down".
According to Zeng Cailing, in Hoofang Village, nearly 70% of the villagers would choose to go to Zhejiang to work, "all with one by one." When Zeng Chunliang was 21 years old, he also followed the villagers to Zhejiang, "a serious job is to make shoes in Zhejiang shoe factory for three to five years." Because there are relatives in the family who work with Zeng Chunliang and don’t know when they started, Zeng Cailing heard from relatives that Zeng Chunliang “had a bad habit” and “gambled and stole”.

According to the China Judgment Documents Network, Zeng Chunliang was twice in prison for theft. In 2002, Zeng Chunliang was sentenced to ten years imprisonment by the People's Court of Luqiao District, Taizhou City for theft. He was released after serving his sentence in 2009. In 2012, Zeng Chunliang was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison for stealing more than 90,000 yuan worth of silver solder in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. On June 12, 2017, the Intermediate People’s Court of Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province issued a criminal ruling, concluding that Zeng Chunliang had repented while serving his sentence and granted a seven-month commutation of his sentence. The sentence was from June 13, 2012 to May 12, 2020. .
Zeng Cailing said that after decades of imprisonment, Zeng Chunliang, 45 this year, has not married yet and does not even have his own house in the village.
Wang Gang (pseudonym), the owner of a local hotel, told the Beijing News that on August 6, Zeng Chunliang went to his store to request accommodation, but did not check in for him because he refused to use his ID card.
Wang Gang said that Zeng Chunliang does not have a house, so he often lives in a cousin's house, and sometimes chooses to live in a hotel.
Wang Gang recalled that in June this year, Zeng Chunliang had checked out after staying in his store for a few days with his ID card. He came again on August 6, but refused to show his ID card. "Because I heard he was stealing things, I didn't let him live."
