An Australian beats a shark to save his wife

A man in Australia jumped off a snowboard to pounce on a shark, which was attacking his wife, and punched the fish several times until the wife escaped, according to media reports.

Chantal Doyle, 35, was surfing off the town of Port Macquarie in New South Wales when it was attacked.

Her husband, Mark Rapley, punched the fish in series until the wife escaped, then helped her get ashore.

The wife was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries to her right leg. Doyle is hospitalized in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

And the newspaper "Port McCarry News" quoted experts saying that they believed that Doyle was attacked by a white shark, up to three meters long.
The head of the surfers' rescue service, Stephen Pears, praised the husband for his speed, telling the Sydney Morning Herald, “He jumped off the skateboard on the shark and started beating it to force her to release his wife, then he helped the wife get to the beach. This was an act of heroism. ”

Inspector Andrew Beverly, of the Ambulance Service, said people on the beach provided first aid to Doyle before the ambulance arrived.

"The people present at the scene did a wonderful job that deserves to be commended," he added.

He said this was the third major shark attack in that area of the coast in the past few months.
