I received a phone call from a local government official who I had known for a long time asking what he thought about the murals. As a result of hearing the bell, the original city center is losing vitality as a new city is created nearby, and it is said that merchants there made an opinion to draw murals to revitalize the city. However, it was said that there was a lot of concern that if the murals were not managed after they were painted, it could become more messy. In fact, it was not yesterday and today that mural dance theory appeared. At one time, like a fashion,'mural painting villages' appeared all over the country, but as the level of paintings fell and management was neglected, the point that it was impossible to do nothing was started to gain sympathy. However, in the case of murals, it is a card that cannot be easily discarded because it costs less than other projects and results can be obtained in a short period of time.

The usefulness of murals can vary greatly depending on the nature of the site and the contents of the painting. In the Mural Painting Village in Ihwa-dong, Seoul, there was a problem of noise and invasion of privacy caused by crowds of tourists, and unbearable residents erased the murals. It is very cautious to paint murals on residential areas. If the purpose and content of the murals are focused on attracting tourists, it is better to avoid residential areas as much as possible.

An example of a mural for local residents can be found in the'Sogeumgil' in Yeomni-dong, Mapo-gu, which has now disappeared due to redevelopment. In order to improve the residential environment and safety of residents, characters to remind safety were filled in places with steep stairs, and there was also an alley marked with calorie consumption to induce exercise. Brightly colored paintings that brighten up the surroundings come to mind in dark alleys or curved alleys where you can't see the front. These paintings have been effective in preventing crime for the safety of residents in addition to providing simple attractions. When'Salt Road' appeared, many people took it fresh, and more people came to see it with my own eyes, and it also played a role in protecting the village like a CCTV in which visitors themselves move.

Murals in commercial areas can be applied more generously compared to residential areas. However, there is a point to consider in the content, so it is necessary to reflect the characteristics of the area where the business site is located and to create a new culture through the murals.

The causeway of the Bangcheon Market in Daegu, which became famous as the'Kim Gwangseok Repainting Road', was initially started as part of the Bangcheon Market revitalization project. While carrying out various projects to revitalize an aging market that people do not visit, he began to paint murals with Kim Gwang-seok on a dark, backed causeway located alongside the market. Since singer Kim Gwang-seok was born near Bangcheon Market, it was possible to secure unique contents based on the region, which served to attract the attention of young people who did not visit the traditional market.

As the embankment of Bangcheon Market was filled with murals and sculptures commemorating singer Kim Gwang-seok, musicians with acoustic guitars gathered to sing, and various performances continued. Empty shops have also been transformed into creative spaces for young artists. As Kim Gwang-seok's story was expanded and reproduced with songs and musicals, it was eventually recognized as the center of honor of Kim Gwang-seok, the embankment of Bangcheon Market. It is a good example of a mural artist painted to save a traditional market, as well as a cultural space that creates a new local culture.

The murals eventually lose or gain vitality depending on the nature and purpose of the site. If you aim for unreasonable achievements, it is easy to get disappointing results contrary to expectations. In order to become a mural full of vitality, it is desirable to pursue'the mural as a means and process' rather than an end.
