  • While the gatherings of a large crowd at festive events (concerts, shows ...) remain complicated across the world due to the Covid-19 epidemic, photos of an outdoor concert have become virals on social networks.
  • They claim to show the first concert organized "with social distancing": the spectators are installed in private boxes, distant from each other.
  • If this arrangement is surprising, these pictures are authentic: they were taken on August 11 in Newcastle (United Kingdom), during the concert of the musician Sam Fender, organized with many health precautions.

Aligned as far as the eye can see on a lawn, metal boxes equipped with several chairs face a bright stage. Gathered inside each of these funny installations in groups of two to five people, men and women discuss there standing or sitting when they are not simply turning their backs to the lens because they are keeping eyes riveted on the central esplanade, which can be seen in the distance.

Is this a giant happening? Or a political rally? Neither, according to the caption accompanying this photo relayed on Facebook: “First concert with social distance last night in Newcastle (UK). 500 platforms each accommodating 5 people. "

For once, this description is true to the scene visible in the photo, surprising as it is: the photo was taken during a concert by British musician Sam Fender at Gosforth Park in Newcastle, UK United, August 11.

FAKE OFF

The organizers of the event presented it as "the first social-distanced dance party in the United Kingdom": it also marked the launch of a series of concerts organized in this original form until 13 September.

The spectators present at the Virgin Money Unity Arena in Newcastle, on August 11, were therefore installed on one of the 500 metal platforms arranged for the occasion, as can be seen in more detail on the many videos filmed there.

By thus "privatizing" the space of people who came to attend the concert together, the event organizers ensure that any potential spread of Covid-19 is avoided.

The barrier gestures are regularly reminded there by informative panels, the public being moreover obliged to wear his mask at each passage to the toilets or to the bar, as to keep a distance of two meters from his neighbors in the queues.

Spectators, who are strictly prohibited from going to a box other than their own, must finally stay one meter from each other when they move in the common aisles, and make sure to use the various freezing terminals. hydroalcoholic available.

Among the nearly 2,500 people present in Newcastle on August 11, according to the Manchester Evening New s, many spectators were rather enthusiastic about this device, considered reassuring and effective. Conversely, some Internet users have deemed the experience contrary to the usual festive spirit of a concert.
