• Andalusia: The Junta imposes on those attending bullfighting shows a separation of one and a half meters and complicates the celebration of the Goyesca
  • Bulls: Were the security measures complied with in the El Puerto de Santa María bullring?

Francisco Rivera Ordoñez, businessman from the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Ronda bullring (Málaga), announced this Thursday the suspension of the traditional Goyesca bullfight , scheduled for the afternoon of August 29, due to containment measures of COVID-19. The retired bullfighter had already anticipated to this newspaper that he gave the Goyesca "for lost" hours before the Junta de Andalucía made a decision.

Thus, in a video published on his Instagram account, picked up by Europa Press, the businessman regrets that despite having "fought" and the illusion and effort of the bullfighters and the Real Maestranza de Caballería rondeña, this will not be held in the end. run. "This year there will not be Goyesca. We have all pushed so that it could exist but it will not be possible."

Francisco Rivera has alluded to the new measures of the Junta de Andalucía regarding security against COVID-19 in the bullrings, announced this Thursday, and has considered that the guilty of the suspension of the Goyesca are "bullfighting businessmen they have not behaved and abused " .

"We all pay the consequences, thanks to those businessmen , bullfighting will be unfeasible from now on," said the businessman, who insisted on the sadness that this news represents for himself, for Ronda and for the world of bullfighting.

The 2020 Goyesca bullfight poster was presented last week and was made up of Morante de la Puebla, Roca Rey and Pablo Aguado who were going to fight bulls from Nuñez del Cuvillo. This celebration would be preceded by a bullfight without picadors with steers from the Yerbabuena cattle ranch for the bullfighters Pablo Maldonado, Ignacio Candelas and Moli de Ronda. Finally, it has been decided to suspend this traditional bullfighting celebration.

Meter and a half of separation

The Junta de Andalucía demands a separation of one and a half meters from those attending the bullfights that are held from now on in the autonomous community. The decision has been made in the third self-evaluation of the coronavirus expert committee held this Thursday in San Telmo and has been communicated by the Minister of Health, Jesús Aguirre, and the Minister of the Presidency, Elías Bendodo, who already dropped in recent days the possibility of taking this measure after the controversy caused by some images that apparently filled the Plaza de El Puerto.

"In the bullrings the use of masks will be mandatory, a separation of one and a half meters between the attendees and a maximum capacity of 50%", declared Bendodo. Until now, the Board allowed to make up for the lack of safety distance with the use of masks. Almost no square could hold 50% of the maximum allowed capacity, observing a separation of one and a half meters between the public.

Thus, the legal capacity is substantially reduced. That is, in El Puerto, for example, there could be 5,300 people and now they would enter the power lines, with the new measure, 800, according to the company's calculations. The reduction complicates the viability of the bullfighting shows already programmed in Andalusia, which had hung the poster according to the half capacity rule. Ronda, already suspended, Linares or Sanlúcar had bullfights scheduled for the next few days.
