The former Federal Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg (CSU) claims to have again a doctorate. The former CSU politician, who resigned from the federal government in 2011 because of a plagiarism affair surrounding his earlier doctoral thesis, received his doctorate again and now has the title of Doctor of Philosophy, he told the newspapers of the Funke media group . He received his doctorate from the English University of Southampton.

So far, he has spoken to almost no one about it, said zu Guttenberg. "Because I did not do my doctorate for the public and certainly not for a political comeback, which I certainly no longer strive for, but solely for very personal reasons. That's why I don't want to say anything more, except that I'm very grateful to have got this second chance to have."

Guttenberg reportedly submitted his new thesis to the faculty of economics, law and arts at Southampton Business School, which is part of the university, back in 2018. It is an "analysis of the nature, scope and importance of correspondent banking and its application in historical precedents and selected case studies".

Guttenberg resigned from his ministerial post in 2011 after the University of Bayreuth revoked his first doctorate. They saw it as proven that he had written off his legal work in numerous passages and deliberately deceived it. The former minister then moved to the USA.
