  • Controls Quarantines, PCR tests ... are the measures imposed on travelers from Spain effective?

Medical societies that represent pulmonologists, internists, microbiologists, anesthesiologists, internists or family doctors, among others, have come together to raise their voices and denounce the situation in the country regarding the Covid-19 epidemic.

In a joint statement, SEPAR, SEMI, SEIMC, SEMES, SEDAR, SEMPSPH and SEMERGEN, SEMFYC and SEMG denounce the lack of measures against COVID and warn of the risk of sanitary collapse that exists if effective initiatives are not put in place to stop the " Continuous and worrying increase in COVID-19 cases that is occurring in recent weeks in Spain"

Health professionals "are verifying that, in recent weeks, the diagnoses of new cases are increasing in health centers, and in hospitals, in critical and intensive care units, in emergency and emergency services, and pulmonology, which can lead in the short or medium term to a new collapse of health ", they point out in a document in which they regret that" the measures that are being taken are not sufficient to control the transmission of the infection. "

For this reason, they continue, "it is essential that new coordinated, fast and effective measures be put into practice between the central health administration and the regional health administrations."

If these measures are not adopted, they warn, "there is a high probability that we will once again face such serious healthcare situations as those experienced during the state of alarm, just a few weeks ago"

On the other hand, health professionals also remind the general population and especially young people that "it is of utmost importance to strictly comply with the prevention measures dictated by the health authorities: always use masks, maintain a safe distance, frequent washing hands and avoid crowds, as well as comply with the quarantine periods indicated ", they emphasize.

In addition, after the problems experienced at the beginning of the pandemic, they also demand from the health authorities that health professionals can have adequate protection measures when carrying out their work, as well as sufficient material and human resources to face a situation such as the one we live.

In a separate statement, also the General Council of Official Medical Associations (CGCOM), has expressed this Thursday its "concern over the reactivation of COVID-19 in Spain in recent weeks."

" We are in time to prevent the situation from getting out of control , and for this, Spanish society and its institutions must develop a clear strategy of persuasion, action, mobilization of resources, and vigilance and demand in compliance with regulations. Only in this way We will be able to stop reckless behaviors, the silent but widespread relaxation of physical distance, protection and hygiene, outbreaks due to preventable working and housing conditions, and the expansion attributable to the slowness of case identification and contact tracing by the health authorities themselves ".

"Doctors and other professionals and health workers appreciate the applause and the affection of the population; but Spanish society must know that there is disappointment and discouragement , and sometimes outrage due to some irresponsible and possibly criminal behavior that we observe around us" , the doctors point out in their statement.
