No more tent, caravan or enclosure. The Causse de Méjean, in Lozère, where thousands of revelers gathered last weekend in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic, has regained its usual calm. But justice will not stop there.

Xavier Sicot, the public prosecutor of Mende, announced on Thursday the opening of an investigation for the organization of an undeclared demonstration. The magistrate said that equipment - including a truck, a trailer, two generators and four "sound systems" - was seized. Their owners will have to explain themselves in hearing during this "long-term investigation".

Possible damage to the environment

But the probable consequences are not confined to health. The prefect of Lozère, Valérie Hatsch, also met the farmers concerned on Wednesday to assess the state of the site after the evacuation.

This teknival also took place on the site of Causses and Cévennes, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its landscapes. It was also held on the edge of the Cévennes National Park, which is home to many rare species such as the Apollo butterfly or the Sabot-de-Vénus orchid. "The establishment will file a complaint for all environmental damage found in the heart of the park," warns Anne Legile, its director, in a press release.
