For the first time in history, an orange rainstorm warning was issued for two consecutive days.
When will the rainfall in Sichuan stop? Intermittently down to the end of the middle

West China Metropolis Daily-Cover News Reporter Wu Bingqing Teng Han

After 7 years, the Sichuan Meteorological Observatory issued an orange rainstorm warning on the afternoon of August 11; on the afternoon of August 12, the rainstorm orange warning continued to be issued.
The Provincial Meteorological Observatory issued an orange rainstorm warning for two consecutive days. This is the first time in history!
How strong is this rain? How will it develop next? When will the heavy rain leave? Will Chengdu really become the center of the country's heavy rains in the next seven days? On August 12, reporters from West China Metropolis Daily and cover news interviewed Qing Quan, chief forecaster of the Sichuan Meteorological Observatory.

Part of Chengde's Meimei site observed extremely heavy rain for the first time

The rain is like putting back a one-time rain that has not been rained before. This is the second regional rainstorm in Sichuan this year, which belongs to the "extra-large" level.
Heavy rainfall is concentrated in the western part of the basin. Live data showed that from 8 o'clock on the 11th to 8 o'clock on the 12th, there was a heavy rainstorm in the western part of the Sichuan Basin, and a local heavy rainstorm. The strongest rainfall occurred in Pujiang, with a rainfall of 281.4 mm.
It is worth mentioning that Chengdu Pujiang, Pidu, Deyang Shifang are the first to observe extremely heavy rain. There will also be rare extreme rainstorms in Meishan Danling.
The rainfall of Lushan Mountain in Ya'an reached 423.2 mm on August 11, which exceeded the rainfall in Dujiangyan in July 2013 and became the second extreme value of the province’s daily rainfall, which was only lower than the 524.7 mm daily rainfall in Leshan Emeishan City in July 1993. Record.
According to the national precipitation rankings on the website of the Central Meteorological Observatory from 8 am to 12 am on the 11th, the top 20 precipitation sites were contracted by Sichuan sites, of which 11 sites in Chengdu.

A "lid" is formed above the basin and the convection center moves in the lid

Why does this rain have both explosive power and endurance?
Qingquan explained that on the one hand, the subtropical high pressure moved westward, bringing abundant water vapor conditions to the basin; on the other hand, the plateau low-value system with its own "water" was moving eastward from the basin; at the same time, the low-level jet continued to strengthen and Let the water vapor double, and before that, the basin has accumulated a lot of energy to release in sunny, hot and hot weather.
Due to the characteristics of the western mountainous terrain, the airflow is constantly forced to rise, and sufficient rainfall conditions continue to form at high altitudes. As a result, a mesoscale convective complex that brings continuous extreme weather is formed over the western part of the basin. It seems to be a lid, once covering the central and western regions of the basin. In this complex, many convective centers are constantly moving, and the ground corresponding to the convective centers will have short-term heavy rainfall.
In addition, the height of the convective cloud is very low and the thickness is relatively thick, so the visibility will decrease rapidly. In the morning and afternoon of the 11th, the day and night in Chengdu was caused by the movement of the convection center over Chengdu.

Intermittent rain will fall to the end of mid-term

Is this rain so unstoppable? Qingquan said that after the lightning and thunderstorms in the past few days, the energy of this "temper-tempered" mesoscale convective complex over the basin is slowly releasing. However, as the western Sichuan Basin and the western Sichuan Plateau will continue to be on the edge of subtropical high pressure, there will be more rainfall in the future. "It is not continuous heavy rainfall, it is intermittent, but sometimes the rainfall is relatively strong." Qingquan said, this state will continue until the end of August.
"From a national perspective, the western part of the Sichuan Basin all the way to North China is in the rain belt on the edge of the subtropical high. Therefore, it should be said that the western part of the Sichuan Basin will be one of the centers of the national rainfall belt in the future." Qingquan said.
According to the China Meteorological Administration, the precipitation covered a large area of Sichuan, mainly concentrated in Mianyang, Deyang, Chengdu, Ya'an and other places in the western part of the basin. Secondly, the precipitation lasts for a long time. From the night of the 10th, the rain began to "rush forward" until the 12th. According to the forecast, it will last until the 13th before slowing down. After days, a new round of "offensive" will be launched on the 16th.
