"I think the experienced medical team coming to Hong Kong this time is a strong support and guarantee for our Hong Kong fight against the epidemic." Tan Jinqiu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the Hong Kong Volunteer League, said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from China News Service.

At the request of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the two mainland support teams coordinated by the Central Government and organized by the National Health Commission will assist Hong Kong in the fight against the epidemic in terms of nucleic acid testing for the new crown virus and the construction of "square cabin hospitals".

Volunteers from the Hong Kong Volunteer Alliance have been involved in helping to prevent and fight the epidemic since February this year, including providing translation services for quarantined people, distributing deep throat saliva sample collection bottles to citizens voluntarily undergoing nucleic acid testing, and helping fill in information, etc. . Tan Jinqiu said that the Hong Kong Volunteer League is initially discussing with relevant departments of the SAR government and the mainland support team, hoping that the volunteers can also assist the mainland support team in their work in Hong Kong.

"I think Hong Kong is now at the most critical moment." Tan Jinqiu said that if the epidemic in Hong Kong is not properly controlled, there is a risk of a major outbreak, and the current medical system is already overwhelmed. Unlike the previous two waves of outbreaks in fixed groups, Hong Kong's third wave of epidemics has already broken out in the community, many of which are cases where the source cannot be traced, which brings great difficulty to epidemic prevention.

Tan Jinqiu mentioned that as an international metropolis, Hong Kong has close contacts with the world in various fields such as shipping and finance, which also brings difficulties to epidemic prevention. He believes that the most important thing at present is to be able to quarantine as soon as possible, find out the root cause, and treat as soon as possible. The Hong Kong Volunteer Alliance must shoulder its responsibilities at this time and "must stand up and contribute to the society."

After learning that the mainland support team will help Hong Kong fight the epidemic, the Volunteer Alliance initiated the recruitment of volunteers willing to participate in the support. In the past two days, more than 10,000 volunteers have signed up. "Especially, we hope that more young people will join this time. The response is very good." Tan Jinqiu said that the proportion of young people who signed up was about 20%. Some of them took the initiative to find a volunteer alliance, hoping to make a contribution to society.

Tan Jinqiu hopes that these young people can increase their sense of social responsibility by participating in volunteer services, and pass on the caring culture of helping others, helping each other, and caring for each other in Hong Kong.

Volunteers participating in the epidemic prevention and anti-epidemic fight need to go deep into the Hong Kong community and have certain requirements for the physical strength of the volunteers. At the same time, there are certain risks because of exposure to different environments. Tan Jinqiu said that the Volunteer Union will strictly require volunteers to have self-prevention and provide them with inspection guarantees, and will also give guidance on how to standardize operating procedures.

Tan Jinqiu noticed that the members of the mainland support team sent by the central government have extensive experience. Some of them are from Guangdong and can speak Cantonese. "This reflects the special care and care given to us by the central government in Hong Kong." He said, no matter the past, present, or future, as long as Hong Kong needs it, the mainland will definitely support it. "With the strong support of the motherland as backing, we will definitely be able to fight this epidemic prevention war." (End)
